I have had chocolate fountains before and I thought that this one would be great, two in one!
I just got it and the first thing that I noticed was how loud it is! I brought it to work for a fun staff day and turned it on and it could be heard throughout the building. I cannot imagine what it would sound like at a party or a wedding reception.
Seems to work well so far but the noise is annoying. I do wish it was a bit warmer too. It heats up in one section and the chocolate is not circulating as well as I would like. Purchsing two is perfect for a couple of reasons:
1. These fondu pots are small, so you need two to hold the chocolate that most fondue recipes make.

This item is a bit more expensive than some in its category but definitely worth the money. Everything in the kit is of high quality and is easy to clean. The heat distributed evenly, and the double boiler is definitely for the more serious fondue-maker. I got a great deal on this and picked up a few for gifts and one for us. It is very easy to use and looks really cute. You melt the chocolate ahead of time and put it in the bottom of the kiss. The tea light candle is suppose to keep it warm, and did a pretty good job. Just keep stirring it so the chocolate doesn't burn on the bottom.

Really dinky little thing. Not much room at the base for catching drips. We got this and it ran really slowly. We let it run for half the day. Even after the party was over it was still running really slowly so that it was just a couple trickles down the mushrooms. Not satisfactory. Also be really careful because this is made of cheap plastic and will break very easily. I dropped the main shaft about 1 foot into the sink and one of the stablizer pieces broke off. This is not very powerful at all. the screw turns real slow and the heater does not get very hot at all. I admit, I was skeptical. I have one expensive electric fondue, but wanted another small one just for chocolate. For the price and a party pending, I decided to chance this one. Everyone thought it was the best thing ever.
You heat the chocolate first and this just keeps it warm. I found we had to keep about a bar's worth in there or it would start to burn to the bottom, but if we kept about 8oz in it and stirred it every 15 minutes or so, it was fine. I hadn't done fondue since I was a kid, and this easy, pretty set brought back the memories! It's well constructed, the "lazy susan" aspect is really convenient and it's pretty! The cheese scorched a little on the bottom, but if I add some olive oil first it stopped doing that. Be careful! This fondue maker does not take normal rubbing alcohol. You will need to buy a special gelled fuel which is not available in most stores. I had to get mine online and pay an extra $15 including shipping. Also, the instructions say not to cook it in the pot itself, but rather to make the fondue on the stove in a normal pot and then transfer it to the ceramic one on the table. I spent 5 years living in Switzerland and never saw anyone do it like that! They always made it directly in the ceramic fondue maker. I've never personally set up a chocolate fountain before but I have used others. Specifically, the last fountain I ate from at a party was a cheaper one and it was small, had to be constantly refilled and worst of all splashed chocolate outside the fountain. I LOVE the Wilton fountain. It's attractive, quiet, holds a lot of chocolate and pretty easy to clean. I've heard you have to be really careful with some fountains because they can easily clog. We didn't use any crumbly food (brownies, cake, etc) but we had absolutely NO problem with the flow of the chocolate. It cascaded well down all 3 tiers (though I think that has a lot to do with using the right chocolate). Speaking of, I highly recommend using the bags of Wilton chocolate. It was surprisingly delicious and SO easy to use.

I bought this fountain for a holiday party that I had for 2008. After the event, I cleaned up my fountain and put it away nice and neat for the next years event. When I took it out of the box this year to get it ready for my 2009 holiday party, it would no longer work! I've had this for about a year now. I can't figure out how to temper chocolate to save my life so I just melt my chocolate in this little contraption and it works well for all my needs. It melts quickly. It cleans up nicely. But when I'm dipping a couple dozen shortbread cookies or some cakeballs, I have to continually put more chocolate in but like I said, it melts quickly so it's not too bad. It would make a great gift. I've melted milk, dark & white chocolate in this as well as Wilton Candy Melts. The nicest thing about this is that the chocolate stays melted & warm as you work. I used to melt my chocolate in a Pyrex bowl in the microwave but it would not stay melted as I worked and I had to continually remelt it. I bought this for my New Year's party and it was a hit. I used strawberries and angel food cake. Kids and adults loved it. I had no problems whatsoever. It is a little time consuming to melt the chocolate in the microwave and then the cleanup which must be done immediately after use or the chocolate will harden. The manual says to add vegetable oil to the chocolate if not using Sephora brand but I did not find this was the case. I bought my chocolate at BednBath and it was just fine. Ordered this chocolate for a party we were having. Taste was great and texture smooth. It took awhile to melt it in the microwave because you have to nuke it in 40 second intervals and then knead it. Still, better than melting chocolate chips in a double boiler and adding oil! I realized after I bought this and paid to ship it that they carry this product at Michaels! I love this product. I've owned it for two years and now actually make things that require melting chocolate.
We have chocolate covered strawberries in the summer and make fun things for parties.
Some people mentioned it is slow to melt the chocolate. It takes a little while, but it's worth it. You need to stir it to get it evenly warm. Once melted, it keeps the chocolate at an even consistency. Much easier than microwaving and remicrowaving. I've never been a big fan of a double boiler.
